About Us

Background

Calderdale Dementia Friendly Community (CDFC) has been developed to take over the work of the Calderdale Dementia Action Alliance (DAA). The DAA was a great initiative when it was established and we want to continue with the task of making Calderdale dementia-friendly. Currently, there are almost 3000 people living with dementia in Calderdale, a progressive illness for which there is no cure. Dementia has a direct impact on families with partners and children becoming unpaid carers.

Our Ambition

We want to encourage the development of dementia-friendly initiatives throughout Calderdale.  There are already lots of good examples and good practices. Our vision is to make the good the norm across all aspects of our community. We aim to:-

  • support groups and organisations to help make Calderdale a dementia-friendly borough
  • empower everyone in Calderdale who wants to make a difference for people living with dementia and their families and carers
  • empower people living with dementia and their families and carers to have an active voice in dementia-friendly communities
  • identify and promote existing areas of good dementia-friendly practice across Calderdale
  • raise awareness and understanding amongst the population of Calderdale about dementia and related issues
  • act as a focus for Calderdale-wide issues
